Michele Costa
begins her third season with the Northeastern State soccer programs. Costa went to NSU in 2002 after attending National American University in Rapid City, South Dakota where she was a four-year collegiate player for their nation-rally ranked soccer program. During her stint at NAU, Costa was a member of both the All-Region and All-Section team's four consecutive years. As a sophomore, Costa received the honor of being named the team's Most Valuable Player and was placed on the All-Tournament team during the NAIA National tournament which she and her teammates competed in for three straight seasons. While in her junior year, Costa was named Region IV's Most Valuable Player as well as being named an All-American. Graduate Assistant Carol Melo who was a former teammate at NAU, helped motivate Costa to become a member of the NSU staff. "Carol was very encouraging. She told me how great the program's at Northeastern where and it really made me want to be a part of these team's," said Costa. The Brazilian native began her career well before being a part of both the NSU and NAU soccer programs. Costa played semi-professional soccer for Saad and Sao Paulo Soccer Clubs in 1996 and 1997. She was also a member of the Brazil National Team in 1996. "Michele is so knowledgeable about the game. It is so nice to have two graduates assistant's that are extremely intelligent in the game of soccer and can contribute to both the men's and women's programs," said head coach Charlie Mitchell. Costa received an Associate of Science degree in General Studies, and received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in International Business from National American. Costa carried a 3.30 grade point average during her four years at NAU and was consistently named to the Dean's Honor list. She was named Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities at NAU as well. She is currently working towards a Master's of Business Administration. Costa is working with both the men and women's programs as a coaching assistant, recruiter, and helps with scheduling games. Costa resides in Tahlequah.
